Happy Victoria Day

Its a bit late now as it has almost passed but this is Victoria Day in Canada, originally a celebration on the young Queen Victoria's birthday but now a fixed long weekend in May ostensibly to honour the birthday of the reigning monarch, or in Quebec, to honour the Patriotes of the 1837 Rebellion but really a celebration of the coming of summer.

I don't have a Queen Victoria but here are 2 archive shots in honour of the day.

The Red Queen sees her troops march off on their way to the front.

Possibly to face a band of patriotic rebels?

  1. Monday (yesterday) was Victoria Day in Edinburgh and a holiday for some of us here in Scotland too.It commemorates her visit to the City.
Appropriate and splendid pictures and a Happy Victoria to you Ross too!

  2. Both lovely pictures. My money's on the patriotic rebels.

The May two-four as beer drinkers like to call it here. I celebrated it by replacing a storm door, which was harder than it looked. There was some beer consumed afterwards.

    1. They are a fierce and patriotic lot.

Are you sure the beer was afterwards?
